A wide corner plot allowed a low, horizontal house that presents a quiet face to the street and opens completely to a private garden.
The challenge
A busy road on two sides and a client who wanted the house to feel like a retreat.
Our approach
Solid masonry to the street with high clerestory openings, and full-height glazing to the garden. A central planted court pulls daylight into the deep plan.
The outcome
Road noise inside the living areas measures well below the street level, and the garden has become the household's primary living space.
